Seeing the Himalayan mountains from the air by flying alongside them is always an interesting experience. The most affordable is a twin-engine plane flight around Everest, while a helicopter ride to Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp is spectacular, but not for everyone’s budget.

An interesting option is the “panorama flight around Everest”. The route is well planned and all passengers, whether they are on the right or left side of the plane, have a perfect view from the air of this area of the Khumbu with Everest as the main point. Flights are early in the morning when we have more options for clear skies and fewer clouds, however, if visibility conditions or weather conditions are not good for the flight, the flight may be delayed.
If bad weather conditions persist and the flight is cancelled, the customer is offered a change of date or a refund (the cost of the transfer from the accommodation to the airport cannot be refunded).

An exclusive option other than flying around Everest is the helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp.
The tour departs from Kathmandu airport, where we will have travelled by private vehicle, and heads to Lukla where the helicopter makes a short refuelling stop. From Lukla the flight follows the valley to Namche, the main town of the Khumbu, to enter the Gokyo valley over its beautiful lakes. From there we enter the main valley through which the base camp trek passes, where we will soon arrive. The flight will stop at Base Camp for about 10 to 15 minutes or at Kala Patthar from where you can see Everest directly in front of you. On the way back the flight stops at Syangboche for a short breakfast (price not included), and from there we go on to Lukla and Kathmandu.
The experience is spectacular and the view over the forests, rivers, glaciers and peaks of this region is privileged. Naturally, weather conditions affect the helicopter flights, which may be cancelled or the stops may be changed.
This option is of course not suitable for all budgets. The entire helicopter is booked and is exclusive to the group that books it. The helicopters have a maximum capacity of five people.
For solo travellers, there may be the possibility of joining a group, but this is an option that needs to be discussed and is not always possible.
There are also simpler flight plans that do not stop at Kala Patthar or Syangboche and are therefore cheaper.
Flight route may vary slightly.
Other destinations from Kathmandu include Langtang and Gosainkund.

About 2 hours in the morning
Start and finish at your accommodation in Pokhara.
Not recommended between June and September
(subject to weather conditions)
Like the helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp, this is an option not for all budgets, but the Annapurna Base Camp flight is more economical as the distance is shorter.
The 30-minute flight departs from Pokhara airport and travels through the Modi Khola valley to reach the head of the Annapurna mountain range, where it lands. There you can spend about half an hour gazing at the impressive peaks ahead of you, above 8000m, before taking off for the return flight in another 30 minutes.
The whole helicopter is for hire, so the price per person varies depending on the group. The helicopters usually take a maximum of 4 passengers. For solo travellers or groups of only two or three people, the helicopter company does make scheduled departures where there is the option to join without having to pay the cost of the whole helicopter, but this is best booked in advance and is always subject to availability.
There is also the option to fly to Muktinath.
