The trek known as Annapurna Sanctuary or Annapurna Base Camp runs through the deep Modi Khola valley until its source in the spectacular high-altitude circus that closes it with the Annapurna peaks as a backdrop and the beautiful Machhapuchhre watching over all our steps from the east side.

Many agencies do this trek by the direct route, that is, following the most basic itinerary that can be done in about 8 days returning by the same way. However, the whole area is too interesting to skip it in a quick trek. For us to do a trek is not just to walk, but it is a unique opportunity to enter a diversity of landscapes and above all cultures, making our journey an experience.

Our itinerary begins in the west with the ascent of Poon Hill, a small mountain with one of the most splendid and wide views of the Himalayas that you will keep in your retinas. We then head to the beautiful village of Ghandruk, from where we enter the valley that ends with the Annapurna I of 8091 meters high. On the way back we turn towards Jhinu Danda where we can enjoy a well-deserved hot-spring bath in its thermal water pools right next to the tumultuous river. From there, avoiding the side most damaged by the construction of new “roads”, we go through Landruk and Tolka to the Australian Camp as a final gift to our route.

During the whole trek, we pass through different ecosystems, from rice fields, small villages and farms with a rich human environment mostly of Gurung ethnicity, to the white peaks of more than 8 thousand meters of altitude, passing through bamboo forests and rhododendrons, through an incredibly deep valley bathed by countless and very high waterfalls.
