As you know, for us trekking is not just walking in a straight line and reaching goals. We always like the traveller to be able to explore and go deep into the human landscape, as well as into small places that, we could say, are a little more unusual. Although the Manaslu trek is already an impressive one, this itinerary gives us the option of making small “side” excursions, which will give us a more complete view of the surroundings.
The Manaslu trek goes rounding by the east and north to this 8163m high mountain, which is the eighth highest in the world and crossing the Larkya-La pass at an altitude of 5106 metres. It is an impressive trek, hard, with some hard uphill and some trails that go along almost vertical walls over the river, in a wild environment. Its route starts at deep valleys at low altitude, where there is much more humidity and the days are usually warmer, to the tundra and arid steppes areas to finally reach the Larkya-La where it is easy to find snow. The Manaslu route does not run through the comfortable paths of other treks, narrow steps where you have to pay attention and often landslides give a more realistic dimension about to walk in Nepal beyond the most frequented places. The Manaslu, one of the most beautiful eight thousand summit, will watch over us during part of the tour.
The Manaslu area is under special protection and is considered a restricted area, so the entrance permit fees are higher and only groups of at least two people with a guide are allowed to hike. It was opened to trekking in 1991, but only a few years ago it is possible to make this entire tour in more or less comfortable lodges. Although it was a very rarely visited destination, the saturation of the Everest area in high season and the construction of the road in the neighbouring Circuit of Annapurna, its popularity has grown in recent years, but of course, no reaching large numbers of trekkers, in part because it is still harder than the other ones and the Manaslu Permit fee is more expensive. It is actually supposed to be a limited number of hikers, but one is never quite sure that these guidelines will ever be followed.
The main communities are Magars and Gurungs, while in the upper area of Burhi Gandaki (river) above Namrung they are called Nupris being fully Tibetan culturally and of origin.

Away from the easy ways of the Khumbu or Annapurna treks, the route and the condition of the path in the Manaslu trek are more challenging. There may be delicate areas along the route, as different parts of the trail, especially in the early stages, can be affected by landslides, leaving small narrow paths unsuitable for unsafe mountain walkers or forcing a temporary pass to get around the obstacle. This is not a situation you will encounter at every step, but it is a real possibility.
To do this trek you must be a group of at least 2 trekkers plus the guide.
INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT SCHEDULE
Programs may have to be adapted according to the schedules of your flights to Nepal. The itineraries are designed taking into account that the international flight arrives at Kathmandu in the morning or noon. If you arrive to Nepal afternoon or later it would be better to have a margin day before starting your trek, although it is not essential.
DO YOU WANT TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR TRIP?
Related to the trek itinerary and Kathmandu and/or Pokhara staying we plan the “minimum days recommended” to have a comfortable and safe trip and trek. But always is a good idea to add some extra day during the trek (for rest or as safety extra day) or in your days in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
Like all our tours, the itinerary can be customized and adapted to the taste, needs and preferences of the traveller, especially when it comes to staying in Nepal outside the trek route.
You can opt for the full trip or just hiring the trek and travel on your own in Nepal.
EXPERIENCES TO NEPAL OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM
Whether for free days in Kathmandu or Pokhara, as if you want to add more days to your trip, we offer a number of options and extensions. With them you can add and complete activities and experiences on your trip. Some are already included in some program, but in general we prefer that you choose them on your own, if you are interested in any, depending on your tastes and way of traveling. Ask us for more information if you are interested.
